PROJECT UPDATE: November 2022

The Short Term Rentals project will be shifting into the implementation phase in Winter 2023. The steps in the implementation phase are anticipated to include:

  • consultation on a Short Term Rental (STR) Temporary Use Permit Policy, e.g. criteria or conditions for issuance of a STR Temporary Use Permit (TUP)
  • development of the regulatory framework for issuance of STR TUPs, e.g. application forms, permit processes, applicable application fees
  • roll-out of STR TUP requirement for short term rental accommodations in the RDEK Electoral Areas.

Communication with the public and STR operators will continue during the implementation phase. The implementation phase is anticipated to occur throughout 2023.

WHAT IS A SHORT TERM RENTAL?

STRs refers to the accommodation of paying guests in an entire single family dwelling, room(s) within a single family dwelling, secondary suite, apartment or condo for less than 30 days.
