The Columbia Lake Management Strategy adopted in 1997 is being updated. The Columbia Lake Management Plan will be developed through a collaborative process involving public engagement and input from a technical committee. The Columbia Lake Management Plan will help guide local government decisions related to Columbia Lake and is anticipated to be adopted by both the RDEK and Village of Canal Flats.

The planning process will identify and analyze ecological, cultural, and recreational values and concerns associated with Columbia Lake and develop management strategies to address concerns and leverage opportunities.

The first engagement session was held this spring and a summary of the public feedback received is posted under Files & Downloads on this page.

Online Engagement Open August 24 to September 7 is now closed. Thank you to all who participated. The next opportunity for public engagement into the Columbia Lake Management Plan will be in late fall/early winter when a draft plan will be presented for your review and comments. A summary of this second round of public engagement will be available soon.

While the public engagement continues to be run largely online at this time, as guidance around public meetings during COVID-19 evolves, the RDEK will continue to look for opportunities to engage with people in-person as conditions allow.
