The Columbia Lake Management Strategy adopted in 1997 is being updated. The Columbia Lake Management Plan will be developed through a collaborative process involving public engagement and input from a technical committee. The Columbia Lake Management Plan will help guide local government decisions related to Columbia Lake and is anticipated to be adopted by both the RDEK and Village of Canal Flats.

The planning process will identify and analyze ecological, cultural, and recreational values and concerns associated with Columbia Lake and develop management strategies to address concerns and leverage opportunities.

To date, two engagement sessions have been held: one earlier this spring and one in August/early September. A summary of the public feedback received can be found in the Files & Downloads section.

The next opportunity for public engagement into the Columbia Lake Management Plan will be when a draft plan is presented for your review and comments. While we do not yet have a date, the draft plan and details on how to comment will be posted here and shared via our email group once it is available.

While the public engagement continues to be run largely online at this time, as guidance around public meetings during COVID-19 evolves, the RDEK will continue to look for opportunities to engage with people in-person as conditions allow.
