Many residents in Area C regularly use and benefit from the City of Cranbrook’s recreation and culture services. From swimming lessons to youth and senior sports and fitness programs, to hockey, curling, pickleball, and squash, this broad network of recreation and cultural services supports health and well-being, and creates opportunities for connection, learning, and fun.
The City’s recreation and culture services are funded through user fees and supported through taxation. The cost to deliver recreation and culture services continues to rise, a trend that isn’t unique to our region. In 2024, the City of Cranbrook completed a Recreation and Culture Service Review, which looked at ways the city could improve services and ensure their long-term sustainability. The city has already taken steps to improve the sustainability of these services, including:
- Increasing user fees,
- Piloting reduced pool hours, and
- Looking for ways to ensure programs remain affordable and accessible to everyone.
One of the recommendations from the City’s Recreation and Culture Service Review is to seek a financial contribution from Area C. By contributing, we can help protect and strengthen the programs we benefit from and demonstrate that Area C values access to quality recreation and culture.
To better understand how residents feel about this, we have prepared this survey. It is important to note that no decision is being made at this time. Your feedback will help provide insight into whether this is an idea that has support to investigate further. Respondents are guaranteed complete anonymity.
